Victron Battery Management

Victron SmartLithium batteries require a Battery Management System (BMS) to protect the batteries from over charge, over discharge etc.

The smallBMS is for use with Victron SmartLithium batteries when there are no VE.Bus devices in the system (MultiPlus / Quattro). It provides a simple Charge Disable and Discharge Disable signals based on information provided by the batteries which can be used to control BatteryProtects and remote on/off connections on devices.

The VE.Bus BMS is for use with Victron SmartLithium batteries where VE.Bus devices (MultiPlus / Quattro) are included in the system. It provides direct control of VE.Bus devices via the VE.Bus connections on the BMS. It also provides Charge Disable and Discharge Disable signals which can be used to control BatteryProtects and remote on/off connections on devices. Note: A digital Multi Control panel is required for control of MultiPlus and Quattros with this BMS even is a GX Touch / Cerbo GX is installed.

The Lynx Smart BMS is Victron's latest BMS intended for larger systems and is Bluetooth enabled. It provides control of connected Victron devices via VE.CAN communications with a Cerbo GX. The Cerbo GX then controls connected VE.Direct devices (solar chargers etc) and connected VE.Bus devices (MultiPlus / Quattro) as needed. The Lynx Smart BMS also has Charge Disable and Discharge Disable signals which can be used to control BatteryProtects and remote on/off connections on devices. The Lynx Smart BMS is also the ideal choice where Victron SmartLithium batteries will be charged via a Nations auxiliary alternator. The Smart BMS will communicate with a Wakespeed regulator which would be supplied with the Nations auxiliary alternator to control charge current etc. Note: a Digital Multi Control panel is not needed with the Smart BMS for MultiPlus / Quattro control. Control of those devices is via the menu on the GX Touch.
